Swimming and use: one lane, or two rooms

The oval keeps a genuine straight line down its long axis — at a common 8 × 4.5 m size, a comfortable 2 m-wide lane runs for about 7 m before the curve closes in, close enough to the full length that a real swimmer barely notices the loss.
